As a career changer, I searched long and hard for a Human Resource program that would give me the ideal knowledge base to become an HR Leader. A few things were of utmost importance to me in my search: a program with a national ranking, a diverse student body and faculty, a strategy laden curriculum, convenience and availability of classes for working professionals, and the opportunity to connect with Fortune 500 companies for future job opportunities. I found exactly what I was looking for in the Master of Human Resource Management program at Rutgers University.
At Rutgers, we are taught how to harness the value of human capital – unquestionably a firm's most valuable resource in today’s global economy – by designing and implementing HR systems or building teams that collaborate efficiently and effectively to create shareholder wealth. Each class is taught on an MBA level, always leading with the goals and objectives of the business and its implications for HR. I saw these same practices play out during my summer internship at American Express, where leading with the business is common practice.
In addition to the renowned HR faculty and globally diverse student body, visiting senior HR executives from elite multinational corporations further enhance the richness of the Rutgers MHRM program by bringing real-life Human Resource management cases to the classroom. The Rutgers MHRM program also offered me unique opportunities to work with HR executives through the Center for Human Resources Strategy, participate in multiple internships, hold leadership positions in a student chapter of SHRM, and mentor 1st year students.
After my diverse experiences in the Rutgers MHRM program, I feel well prepared to create shareholder value through the management and leadership of human capital in the global economy. Having recently accepted a position at Novartis, I’ll have the chance to put my Rutgers MHRM education to work and learn even more through their Commercial Development Program in Human Resources. I look forward to challenges and opportunities this HR rotation program offers – particularly the international component in Basel Switzerland – and am confident that my MHRM experience will help me meet the challenges and seize the opportunities I am presented with in the future.
