What are the application deadlines?

What are the admissions criteria?

Our minimum standard for consideration for admission is a 3.0 grade-point average (GPA) and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores in the 500s in verbal and quantitative sections and 4.5 in the analytical writing section. We look for 500s on the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), which can be taken in place of the GRE. Three letters of recommendation are required, preferably at least one being an academic reference. Employers’ letters are also acceptable references.

International students whose first language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimally acceptable score is 575 for paper and pencil tests and 233 for computerized tests. In all cases, GPA and test scores are reviewed in the context of the whole. For example, excellent grades in quantitative courses might offset a marginal quantitative score in the GRE, or a good TOEFL score might offset a low verbal GRE.

May I send in my application without my GRE scores?

Yes. Just indicate on the application when you plan to take the exams, and make sure that you take the exams in time to meet the deadline. Your application will not be reviewed without your GRE (or GMAT) scores.

When are classes held?

Fall semester is 15 weeks long, beginning in September and ending in December. Spring semester lasts 15 weeks from January until May. Classes are held once a week, Mondays through Thursdays. Class times are 4:30 p.m. - 7:10 p.m. or 7:20 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. We also offer a limited number of courses on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. for half a semester.

Are there summer classes?

Yes, four or five classes are offered each summer. These classes are held two nights a week for seven weeks.

Can you be a full-time student and take only evening classes?

Yes. Three classes (9 credits) are a full-time load and it is possible to fit four or five classes in, either one per evening Monday - Thursday or two per evening for two evenings during the week. In fact, many full-time students prefer the evening schedule because they can gain valuable experience by working part-time in human resources during the day.

How large are the classes?

Class sizes vary from 8 - 40 students, but most are around 25.

Where are classes held?

Most classes are held in the Janice Levin Building on the Livingston campus, where there are three classrooms.

How long will it take me to get my degree?

Most full-time students complete their degrees in two years, although, if they waive or transfer in enough credits, they can finish in one and a half years. We also have a five-year program with the Rutgers School of Business in which Organization Management students who take specific courses as undergraduates can complete this degree in one year (if accepted into the MHRM program).

What merit-based financial aid is available?

Our program has a limited amount of merit-based financial aid to offer. Depending upon resource availability, we offer fellowships.

What about part-time work and internships?

There are many opportunities to gain HR experience while attending our program. Our location offers many possibilities of employment near Rutgers - New Brunswick. Each year, approximately 30 of our students are hired for part-time jobs and internships in HR. International students on F-1 visas should be aware that they are ineligible to work off campus for the first nine months and that jobs on campus are scarce because of the demand by international students.
